Trump fires National Portrait Gallery director over DEI support

President Trump has dismissed the National Portrait Gallery director—accused of being too enamored with DEI initiatives—in a move that underscores the administration’s combative cultural stance. The firing has ignited controversy among critics who decry what they call a politicized purge of cultural institutions.
Purdue University announced the end of DEI activities, closing the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and Belonging and updating programs to support all students.
President Donald Trump dismisses Kim Sajet from the National Portrait Gallery, citing her support for DEI as inappropriate, amid a broader purge of officials opposing his agenda.
The director, Kim Sajet, had served in the role since 2013. Trump says he would soon name a replacement.
Firing follows executive orders halting federal diversity and inclusion efforts under Trump administration.
