In a notable policy shift, the CDC has updated its vaccination recommendations for children. The revised guidance – introduced amidst heated public debate and high-profile criticism – underscores the agency’s ongoing struggle to balance emerging data with parental concerns.
The agency had kept its old recommendations in place for several days, even after officials announced they had been superseded.
The shift to so-called “shared clinical decision-making” will compel health insurance companies to keep covering the cost of the vaccine, according to the agency.
Earlier this week Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that Covid vaccines will no longer be recommended for healthy children and pregnant women.
An update to the CDC’s website shows that children “may” get the Covid vaccine if their parents and doctors want them to.
The CDC dropped a broad recommendation for all children to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
